What is paracord?

Paracord is short for parachute cord. It is a strong, durable nylon rope that can be used for an incredible number of things and is often found in the packs of adventurers and survivalists all over the globe.

What is paracord used for?

It is used to anchor loads, tie branches together, hang things – and much more. As with many things, only imagination limits what you can use paracord for!

Different thicknesses

Paracord is available in different colors and thicknesses. The most common is 550-cord, approximately 4 mm thick with a breaking strength of 550 pounds (approx. 250 kg) and 7 inner strands. Thinner is 275-cord, approx. 2.4 mm thick with 4 inner strands and a breaking strength of 125 kg. The inner strands can be removed and used as fishing line or sewing thread – but then the promised breaking strength does not apply. There are also special variants like FireCord with an easily flammable thread to use as tinder.
