KNIFE SHARPENERS
Keeping your knife sharp and in good condition is essential for it to be a useful tool!
Here we have gathered different types of knife sharpeners, whetstones, strops, etc.
The English word for strigel is strop, and the act of using a strop, called "strigla" in Swedish, is sometimes referred to in older Swedish as "stroppa."
A strop is something EVERYONE who owns a knife should have.
The strop is a gentle tool that provides that final perfect sharpness after sharpening and makes the edge truly keen.
It is also a very good tool for maintaining the sharpness of the edge when a full knife sharpening is not needed.
Often, it is possible to strop away so-called "micro dents" and even "burrs/edge folding" that occur when cutting with a knife.
Works for all types of cutting tools, especially a straight razor, kitchen knife, or your EDC knife.
Using your strop
Using it is simple: you simply stroke the edge in a sweeping motion against the stretched leather until you have achieved the desired result. The only thing to remember is that the back of the knife should point in the direction you are moving the knife; otherwise, you will cut your strop instead.
Some prefer to use some form of polishing compound on the strop for an even more effective fine-tuning. One thing to keep in mind if you use abrasive compounds is that they embed themselves in the leather.
So, if you like to use different abrasive compounds, you should have a couple of different strops and use the same strop for each respective compound.
