MAKE A FIRE

Here you will find all the items related to the noble and ancient art of starting a fire – fire-starting tools! Being able to make a fire provides essential warmth and allows you to heat your food and boil your water. It is one of a handful of basic needs that you must be able to provide for yourself and your family in nature as well as in a crisis situation. Fire steels, fire starters, storm matches, lighters, piezo lighters... we recommend always carrying at least two different tools/ways to easily start a fire.

Being able to light a fire is, as we mentioned at the beginning, a very important need to fulfill. It is not easy to make a fire if you don't have good tools for it. You should therefore have a primary and a backup.

Different ways to start a fire

A regular gas lighter is a very simple way to start a fire; it is the method we recommend everyone to have as their primary. But gas does not work well in severe sub-zero temperatures, nor if the lighter gets very wet, so you should always have at least one alternative.

Storm matches are a good way to get a fire even in very bad weather; they burn even if dropped in snow.

The method that requires a bit more from the person making the fire is the fire steel. Fire steels require some practice to master but are a very effective way to get a fire going. By drawing the fire steel against a sharp edge, such as the spine of your knife, very hot sparks are created that quickly ignite tinder. A sturdy fire steel lasts a very long time and can be used extensively before there is simply no more material left to strike!
